Served on-tap at the pub I went to with a friend of mine the other night. Served into a unlabelled pint glass.
Appearance - Black as night, creating a vacuum in which no light can escape (or so it seemed) About a 1/2 finger of tan head that receded at a moderate pace and left some sparse lacing. Soapy wisps of head remain throughout the session.
Smell - Mostly malts and roasted characters, but also a bit of a sourness in the nose as well. Some smoke and faint traces of ash were also detected. Nothing here was that potent though.
Taste - Again the malts and roasted characters, dark bitter chocolate especially and the sour notes I picked up on the nose are more present in the taste. It's a little different than I expected and found it quite different from the prior schwarzbier I had tried.
Mouthfeel - Rich and fulling with a medium dry finish at the end. Carbonation seems low to medium.
Overall - Glad I tried this, basically picked threw a dart at the board at this establishment and was hoping for something different. Which this certainly was, so it was well worth it.
