Got this one from hopsolutely last summer. Cheers guys!
From a 750 into a snifter
APPEARANCE: A slow foamer that just keeps coming. Clear brown pour yields a 1+ finger, loose, foamy, fizzy light tan head with lousy retention. Quickly fizzes down to a splotchy cap. Bistre rbwon boy with lots of carbonation all over the place. Murky body with lots of floaties in it. Splotchy wisp remains until the end leaving decent lacing on the glass as it empties. Light color, nasty looking floaties and a horrible head. Yuck.
SMELL: Tart cherries, wood, and some lemon sourness. Definitely like a wild ale and that certainly wasn’t the point here.
TASTE: Oxidized for sure. Cardboard and leather up front, with piles of tart flavors and barnyard at the swallow. Medium finish is stale and metallic with cardboard, tart lemon and cherries, light woody notes and some sweet cream. Oxidized and infected at the same time.
PALATE: Thin body with higher levels of carbonation. Airy and light on the palate, goes down airy and finishes slightly sticky. Watery and foamy. Tartness lingers.
OVERALL: Terrible. This one went all wrong and met Drain pretty quickly. Oxidized for sure and it’s plainly obvious that the barrel aging process didn’t work out so well. Infected through and through. There’s nothing stout about this one any more, as it’s developed into an oxidized wild ale. Avoid this at all cost. I swear if I keep trying Wellington beers I’ll eventually come across a decent one. Thanks again for the brews guys!
