Copper golden with sediment and a finger of white head.

Smells like lager, with some apple sauce, kind of like an Octoberfest beer.

Sweet and alcoholic, mostly like a cheap Euro Strong Lager.

Thick, slightly syrupy body with moderate carbonation.

Got this in Orillia at the LCBO there, drinking in Muskoka, Feb 19th, 2018. Yes, its most assuredly retired and from last year. Not loving it, not due to its age, rather its cheap on the palate.

Wellington's Winter Lager is malty and spicy but still easy drinking and subtle. It has a thicker mouth feel than most lagers and a little bitterness as well.

It also packs a punch at 6.8% and 750ml per bottle.

750 ml bottle served cold into a tulip. Purchased from the LCBO for $6.95 CDN. Listed as 6.8% ABV.

Appearance - Semi transparent orange-ishbeer with decent carbonation and topped with a finger and a half of brilliant white head. Retention time is pretty average but some spiderweb patterned lacing sticks to the glass.

Smell - Plenty of coarse grain with some sweet caramel malt mixed in. A subtle earthy / leafy hop presence as well.

Taste - Coarse grain, piney hops, subtle suggestions of spice for festivity purposes. Pretty good but a little boozy (it's more noticeable than it should be) and a bit of a vegetative close. Not bad but not loving it either. Improves though as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Body is medium-heavy, carbonation and booziness make this a little prickly and it goes down easy enough for a heavy lager.

Overall - A unique take on a winter lager, it's a little different to be sure, and could appeal to some, but the booziness and vegetative note at the end of some sips kinda drags this down for me. Worth a try if you're sharing.
