Got this one from Hopsolutely. Cheers!
From a 16oz can into a snifter
Part of the Welly One-Off Series
Released 22 September 2012
Lager yeast
APPEARANCE: A brown pour yields a small, medium looking, light tan head with lousy retention. Head fades quickly to a faint, thin film and ring. Clear black body with no carbonation evident. A slight ring remains but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Caramel, dark malts, dark fruit, like raisins and dates, with a touch of grapes on the nose.
TASTE: Caramel, toffee, some roasted dark malts and some dark chocolate at the swallow. Dark fruit notes too, with raisins and grapes again. Bolder and lingering finish of sweet caramel, toffee, roasted grains, and some dark fruit and bitter chocolate. Pretty flavorful really, and plenty complex.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Not overly creamy but goes down fine and finishes a touch mouth coating. Okay here.
OVERALL: Surprisingly good. The flavor was solid, though the rest of the experience would have to pick it up a notch to make it really memorable. Definitely a solid porter for sure, and probably the best Wellington beer I've had so far. Recommended.
