Pale gold-to-straw, and gem clear (SRM 2-3). A fine, fluffy white head holds one-half inch for about a minute. A profusion of fine carbonation lazily rises within, while occasional large bubbles burst forth and race by. This makes for an entertaining visual within a Steigle Stange.

The aroma is quite tart, with a definite sourness. Faint skinniness works well with growing lime as it warms. A light horse blanket gives way after a while to gin that never quite becomes strong.

The flavor is extremely tart. After the initial bombardment, tartness fades and the mouth whimpers back from its recoil. Quince and bitterness leave little room for other sensations. Warmth, however, definitely brings out gin and martini flavors. It is crisp and dry, and very acidic. Perhaps there is coriander, although that may only be subliminal. The finish is long, crisp and tart.

Wow! The body is so light it is almost ethereal. The texture is similar to down feathers. Alcohol is more present than expected. The effervescence of fine carbonation is remarkable in both appearance and mouthfeel. This is very dry, and did I mention the tartness? It is mouth-watering.

At first, the gin barrels seemed lost, but that was only for the first few minutes. What this lacks in balance, it more than makes up for in its refreshing quality. I think it needs something fatty, like aged Brie. I enjoyed it on a cold, early Spring afternoon, and hope to find more on our next trip through Marysville. BTW the Marysville Diner next door is a good place for a quick stop and a hearty, good meal.
