Pint pour on draught at the brewery. It's color is darker than I expected. It's a pretty, dark cherry-ruby color with a modest ecru head and thick, clinging lacing. The nose is primarily malty with pine needles and soft floral hops. It's a tasty ale! Beneath the bitterness of the El Dorado and Simcoe hops there is a sweet, nutty malt base that has subtle hints of caramel, chocolate and coffee. As it warms I notice berry/stone fruit from the Mosaic. It's earthy with lots of clean bitterness. The mouth feel is rich and creamy with pleasant carbonation and I think it drinks big for 6.2% ABV. Overall, West Coast Red V.2 isn't a clone of other Red Ales. It has its own unique character. It's well-crafted and a very good offering from a new brewery.
