Cartesian Brewing

 

It’s a Saturday afternoon, 4pm, and the place is packed with most of the front of the place filled with a party. As far as I can tell, there’s only one person handling the entire place. Needless to say, service is poor. Also as a demerit, despite the sign out front, there is no happy hour. The server was obviously flustered and impatient.

There were 11 beers on tap. A twelfth had been kicked prior to my arrival. Besides a fruited sour, all of the beers were pale. There were a couple of lagers interspersed with pale ales. The beers are middle-of-the-road at best.

It appears that they offer Trenton Tomato Pies (pizza) for food although it was obvious they allowed outside food for the party.

The place is very noisy with the concrete walls and exposed ceiling providing lots of echo.

With so many other choices in Philly, I am unlikely to return to this place, even without a surly server.

Mid block on a residential street in South Philly. Garage door in front. Bar on the right side with about 10 seats. Tables with seats throughout the left side. Small cooler with take out cans. 6 beers on draft, and 1 beer on the beer engine. Bitter, Dark Mild, Pilsner, Extra Stout, British IPA, Hazy IPA, WC IPA. Had the Dark Mild and the cask British IPA.

 

Right in the neighborhood. Big garage door opens to spacious taproom and brewhouse. Small bar, 12 taps, lots of malty styles. All the beers were really good. Great service too. Plenty of other places in the vicinity as well. Parking might be an issue.
