Poured from 330mL bottle into a wine glass. Best by 2/21/23.
Appearance: dark brown hue with light, if any, haze, and a finger of frothy tan foam. The color is nice, although the head does not stick around very long.
Smell: rich, dark, malt, with a bit of sweetness along with toffee, caramel, raisin, and perhaps even a little chocolate. It also lacks the biscuity character that I feel shows up in a lot of dubbels. Great!
Taste: similar flavors of toffee and raisin with a tiny bit of astringency. It feels a little bit "watery" but that is probably more of a mouthfeel issue than a flavor one.
Mouthfeel: surprisingly light and insubstantial. It actually kind of detracts from the beer a little bit.
Overall: this is a reasonable dubbel, though not a perfect one. Aromas are great and flavor is good, but it has its weaknesses in body and overall texture.
