This crushing Double IPA, named for the legendary hop that predominates it, is one of New Zealand craft brewing's original palate benders, famous for squeezing every last drop of flavour and aroma from its American namesake. Strong notes of citrus shouldn't surprise anyone who reads the label.

440ml pull-tab can nabbed at Countdown Rotorua. 9.0% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Pours a honey gold body. Filtered and transparent. ~3cm head white in colour.

TASTE: Boozy warmth, orange marmalade, pale malt, sweetbread, caramalt. Underatennuated and underhopped.

The only citrusy flavour I get is orange marmalade flavour, which isn't exactly what one wants from Citra hops and also would be more on target for an English IPA then an American style IIPA.

Drinkable for what it is, but not a top tier New Zealand beer in my opinion (nor a very good Imperial IPA).

A - Pours a cloudy dark copper colour with a White head that dies quickly. A very inviting beer
S - Classic aromas of lemon citrus, hops and malt
T - Much like the aromas with the classic citrus hop coming right through, maybe a little past its optimum
M - Medium mouthfeel with carbonation medium
O - Delivers on what it says. Great beer
