Sometimes less is more. This pilsner is brewed with a single malt and a single hop (SMaSH). Aurum is a brand new German Hop bred to embody the classic herbal, spicy, floral aromas of traditional noble hops but with a higher oil content. We paired this new German hop with an old heirloom barley variety, Barke, which gives this beer its amazing body and foam.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my wiezen glass.

The look is legendary. A light golden straw, crystal clear, and lively carbonation. Massive 2-3 finger head on a slightly rough pour. It's looking like a sexy pilsner. Beautiful lacing even.

The smell is unfortunately a quite skunked. All the hop seems to have gone funky? Not sure what's happening here, but if you look pretty far past the skunk there is a crispness too it from the layering. It's unfortunate that something bad happened here. Some biscuity malts do come through. Possibly a bit of malt sweetness in this one.

Taste is still a bit skunks but not nearly what happened with the smell. The hop still lends some decent bitterness true to the style and biscuit malts are very pleasant as an aftertaste. It has a lot of potential with a transition from dryness to a light sweetness while still maintaining the crispness.

Feel is true to style easy to put down with enough head to keep it a bit weighty in the mouth, not too light, but not heavy.

Overall a bit disappointing that the aroma is so off. If that wasn't wrong it would be almost perfect. I'm not sure what happened, but I'd like to give this another try to see if it was maybe just this bottle, as my work got a few bottles for free from the brewery. Maybe this was just a fluke and next time we can raise some scores.
