A black complex ale, with sweet dark fruit notes (black cherries, plum, raisin) balanced by an incredible chocolatey roast character without being acrid. Brewed with freshly roasted dark malt from Troubadour in Fort Collins.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my weizen glass.
The look is decent, not quite pitch black, but almost black. A very small amount of red light will come through when held up to light. Not much head on this one, just under one finger that fades to a few clouds of foam floating on top and a ring clinging to the glass.
Aroma has definite roasty notes of coffee and malt sweetness, but nothing too intense. A decent amount of dark fruits as well from fermentation but it compliments the malt nicely. Little to no hop aroma present.
Taste carries the roasted notes strongly on the front, and the malt becomes much more dry in flavor making it almost crisp. Quite nice and drinkable, and exactly how an export stout should be. Dry, crisp, and crushable, yet roasty. The malt sweetness does come back subtly on the aftertaste with little to no bitterness sticking around. Despite 48 IBUs the bitterness is not upfront but builds right after you swallow from a small amount of bittering hops that I am picking up, then it does fade into the roasty malty dark bread character.
Feel is creamy but not chewy making it a good year round beer. It could really go with anything if you just want the roasty profile. Good if it's hot or cold out even a nice lawnmowing beer if you aren't feeling a lager.
Overall a very good interpretation of an export stout. True to style and not really americanized at all. Nice if you like Guinness but want something more or just different. No adjuncts adding odd flavors just malt, hops, and yeast. Very good.
