Ordered on draft at the brewery taproom

On the pour a fine 1.5 finger head forms that recedes to a dense half finger sticky cap. Lively carbonation but I believe this glass has nucleation points. Color is a brownish red amber. Color of vienna malts. Crystal clear with good lacing.

Aroma is malty upfront, but relatively dry. Not nearly like a stout, and the second strongest characteristic is a nice smooth fermentation note that mingles with the hops to create an earthy dry malty aroma. Hops are less pronounced on the aroma than malt or yeast and largely just bittering.

The flavor follows the smell but with an explosion of caramel malts balanced by a nuanced bitterness from earthy European style hops. Some brightness is contributed by the hops but the yeast and the malt surge back for a nice semi dark aftertaste with slight bitterness.

Feel is quite easy to put down and almost light but the head is rich enough to lend a creaminess to the beer. A nice dark feel without being thick or too heavy. Not watery by any means and lingers on the palate for a while.

Overall this is a delightful altbier and perfect for my tastes, a malty beer without being heavy, and a good hop bite that isn't overwhelming. True to style and very nice for amber ale drinkers.
