the most straightforward of the three beers i had from segral, but that is not to say its boring or uninteresting, in fact it has quite a lot going on for being as true to style as it is. for one it pours a shade deeper than many of these, more brassy even bronze toned than yellow, still a high airy white head on top indicative of the style but maybe not as long lived, light haze uniform throughout it. it smells deeply earthy, spicy from both the grain and the yeast, which i think is uncommon in these. of course its still properly fermentation forward, ripe banana and pithy green banana alike, some clove and white pepper maybe too, and a hint of a more belgian than german ester among all the hearty wheat. the flavor is identical to the nose but opens as it warms to citrus and lemongrass along with the fruity yeast, always grounded by the whole grain feeling wheat, peppery to close, off dry, a little honey linger, but nice proportions and balance. lots to like about this, fuller bodied but light to drink thanks to good carbonation, even lacking the sort of creaminess the very best of these have. there is something a little amateur about this, and maybe the fresh blonde ale i had here too, but not in like a sloppy way, the overall quality is pretty good, but in an endearing way, like you can taste the love and effort and attention to detail and the learning on the fly and also maybe a little bit of the lack of a lab or professionally trained expertise or high tech equipment too, but to me it makes this truly craft and i love that beer than any overly refined example of these styles. bravo to this beer and to segral in general, they have a great vibe and some fun beers happening, a true labor of love!
