the first beer we actually encountered from these guys, what an introduction, nice restaurant with a view of the alhambra and granada in the twilight, large format beer with really sexy packaging, twine on the neck and all, just stunning appearance here. didnt exactly crave a winter warmer at the time, but had to take a chance on this unknown and boy am i thankful we did, wonderful beer, among my very favorite from our entire trip to spain, which was exceedingly beery. this is magic. deep mahogany color and a high rising khaki head that looks almost belgian on this, some bottle conditioning seems apparent, really fills out a wine glass nicely. the aroma is clove and raisin to me, perhaps a pinch of cinnamon, orange peel, and white pepper, but its all so well integrated i dont really want to pick it apart, a cherry cola note too, some cocoa and richness in the malt, vanilla, black tea, the yeast too, wow this is really layered. flavor teases maple and molasses but its shockingly dry, a lot of toasted warmth to the grain, but it finishes quicker than most, some unexplained bitterness later for balance too. citrus peel, rum raisin, allspice, nutmeg coziness, and no real sign of its alcohol, especially for the style, but based on other beers we had here, this is on the higher end for what is common. the flavors are awesome, wintery for sure but working fine for me in late spring too, and the overall quality here is off the charts, totally a head turner. epic smoothness and effervescence, medium body with amazing layers of malt and spice, and the ferment really flatters it. hands down the best of the segral beers, all of which we liked, but this is downright special. among the best beers in this style ive ever had, and would put many noteworthy american examples to shame. absolutely elite!
