I walked a couple of kilometres through the rubble, rubbish, and humanity-filled streets of Patong Beach to find this beer at Top C Extra at the JungCeylon shopping centre right in the heart of the Patong party district. I then muled it 7,000km back to Oz, and here I am, the day after returning, enjoying this beer on my peaceful Australian deck...
L: The beer is clear amber, with a long-lasting, fluffy, off-white head. Hordes of bubbles swirl and leap their way up the glass. This is the visual archetype of a 2010s IPA.
S: Aroma is chewy malt and fruity, tangy hops.
T: The flavour profile is underlined by a solid, bitter, malty backbone. Fruity, tropical hops, headlined by guava and peach, sit over the top. Bitterness, as noted, is moderate to high, plays well with the tropical notes and lingers long after the swallow, where it is joined by a further fruity afternote. There's burn in the mouth and throat after the swallow, likely from the heavy malt base and hop load, rather than the alcohol, which sits at a moderate 6.8% ABV.
M: The body of the beer is thick and rich. Carbonation is mild and suits the thick, malty body well.
O: This is a really enjoyable IPA that held up well to the 7,000km journey in my luggage. Definitely one to drink again.
Cheers!

Dark Amber, with a slight haze and medium amber head. A little smell of fruitiness and toasted notes on the nose. The taste is of fruity, peach tea, and a dull bitter finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation, and a dull, bitter but brief finish. I got this at Lotus and drink it in Phuket Thailand, April 18, 2024.
