L- Dark chestnut brown, moderately cloudy with a v nice looking 3mm pale tan ultra-fine bubble foam cap that resembles tan whipped cream. Great so far. 4.25 [ps. The foam cap holds for a long time too.... nice]
S- A little mild for me (tho I do have some winter congestion). I get a roast note plus some malty richness... 3.5
T- Intersting! This can is well chilled... I get malty richness and at the same time a fast rising but quite subtle brightness that on the 2nd sip has a fresh verdant aspect to it. I usually try and blind-taste+review before I read the can but just noticed the word spruce on the image below... oops :) Thus, fresh+verdant = conifer, that connection is now clear to make. The taste could evolve quite notably as it warms, I wonder if it will get the chance... hmmm
F- It certainly has a richness, in some ways it is suprising the ABV% is a moderate 5.5% as it 'presents' as a wee bit heavier than that. The spruce seems to blend well with hops to counter the rich malts.
O- Well that was a nice surprise. If I'd have known pre-purchase this contained conifer I might have given it a miss. At the price too, it risked being a bit too off-piste for my more trad recipe tastes. But I really like it, it's certainly something a bit different too. I asked my wife to blind-taste it too and wasn't at sure it would work for her, but 'Mmmm!' was the conclusion. So well done STF, nice one, you're a brewer I'll keep an eye on in future. I'd definitely try this one again, well suited for winter/Xmas.
