500 ml bottle.
Pours a dark cherry cola color with two fingers of creamy off-white head. Average retention. Leaves a crown of lacing around the glass before it settles into a thin film.
Aroma is grainy a faintly metallic. Notes of smoked tree bark, leather, and baker's chocolate.
The flavor has layers of complexity which belie the muted aroma: Sweet caramel, toffee, roasted almonds, and dark fruit notes as well as roasted coffee, freshly baked dough, and mildly spicy hops. Love this.
Medium-light bodied with good carbonation. Exceptionally smooth. Dry on the finish.
Overall, this is an exceptional Schwarzbier. The aroma is unfortunately a bit lacking but the flavor absolutely makes up for it with plenty of boldness and a surprisingly refreshing balance.
