On tap at the brewery
As part of my summer journey to try every brewery in the state of RI, I find myself at West Passage for the first time. Ironically, I ordered this beer then looked up the brewery name on BA, only to find out it’s the only one added so far. Weird coincidence
Pours a very dark brown with a red glow and 2 fingers of light tan head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
This is pretty nicely balanced in the nose as the style should be. I’m picking up on aromas of acidic coffee, earthy hops, dark toast, toffee, black pepper, and a touch of cocoa
It leans more acrid and roasty in taste, but it’s still quite good. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting acidic coffee, burnt toast, cocoa powder, black pepper, and light caramel. The swallow brings notes of acidic coffee, herbal hops, milk chocolate, dark toast, toffee, and black pepper
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a a sharp beer. Finishes mostly dry and roasty
Not the best but pretty damn good. Just another stop in my journey
