Brewed in collaboration with Vaulted Oak Brewing
A black lager that is deceptively light-bodied. This German-style Schwarzbier has soft notes of cocoa, mild roastiness and balanced hopping. Brewed in collaboration with Vaulted Oak Brewing.

On tap at the Casual Pint in Charlotte, served in a pint glass
This beer pours nearly black with just the slightest ruby highlights. There was a smallish tan head that receded quickly leaving behind very little lacing.
The aroma is a little on the weak side, with notes of a roasted grain, cocoa, and just a hint of coffee. There is also a nice mild hoppyness that offers balance
The taste is similar to the aroma; lightly roasted grain, cocoa/chocolate, coffee, and just a hint of hops to even it out. Medium/light bodied, easy to drink... very well balanced.
Overall this is not a bad beer, they were very even handed and restrained with the flavor profile, being careful not to make the beer too one dimensional. Many American breweries fall into the trap of making a Schwarzbier too aggressive, teetering on the verge of porter territory, Midnight Mulligan may have showed a little too much restraint
