This is a true nano-brewery located in a residential part of Kyoto west of the Imperial Palace grounds. Despite what Google maps said, the tap room was closed today. The Brewery's literature says the tap room is open on Saturday and Sunday. Today (Friday) is a "Sales Day." Despite this, a kind brewery worker set up a special table for us and we were allowed to try up to 5 beers they had on tap.
This is a brewery first and foremost. We never got to see into the tap room or the brewery itself. The entire building is about 24 feet wide. The walls and floor are concrete. The entrance is nondescript--just a simple sign. The entire layout screams business not open to the public--the swag remains in boxes which are on top of equipment. The bottles for sale are hidden in a corner.
Still, there's a lot to be said about the experience. The brewery staff member explained our options and poured us 4 different styled beers. Later, she asked us about our favorite sites in Kyoto as she was having family from America coming to see her in October and wanted to know what Americans like.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience despite the rating given.
