Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 1/15/23.
Appearance: rich, dark amber-brown hue with no haze and a thick finger of frothy tan foam. Maybe could be a little darker, but still, very pretty.
Smell: a pretty hefty yeasty lager aroma, with a nicely toasty and caramelly malt. It's not roasty, but it's incredibly alluring. Reminds me of some of the best Central European dark lagers.
Taste: relatively sweet up front, but not overpoweringly so. Malt is toasty and with just a little bit of roasty bitterness, and hop bitterness is balanced, but still definitely part of the mix. Very well-crafted indeed -- this is a really good beer.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: an extremely drinkable, tasty schwarzbier. Ladd & Lass rarely disappoints.
