Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned on 2/5/23.
Appearance: rich, dark amber-brown hue with a nearly-clear body and a thick finger of frothy tan foam atop. Looks outstanding.
Smell: rich malt flavor with a light fruitiness and perhaps just a little bit of banana in there. But the overall character is malt, malt, malt -- as it should be. Not overly complex, but good and true to style.
Taste: rich, sweet, malty, caramelly, perhaps a bit of toffee. Definitely, again, true to the doppelbock style. Not much in the way of alcohol heat, which is impressive in a beer of this weight. It's good, although man, it is pretty darn sweet.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess. I like it, although I do feel like it could be even more creamy somehow, given the bigness of this beer.
Overall: a totally solid doppelbock. Perhaps not my top style personally, but I feel like I can appreciate quality when I encounter it. Good stuff!
