On the occasion of our 2nd anniversary, we are excited to introduce our first barrel-aged beer. Originally brewed to celebrate our 1st anniversary, Barrel-aged Year One has spent our entire second year maturing in Willett bourbon barrels. What started as a young and jubilant celebration is now an ode to wood, barley, and time. With notes of rich toffee and caramel, luscious creme brulee, nutty malt, and delicate oak, this barleywine is the perfect excuse to gather with friends.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish orange with a very thin, light khaki head that dissipates to a small patch with slight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, dried plums and toffee. Flavor follows with dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, dried plums, toffee and a little wood and Sherry notes. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; nice carbonation despite near still pour. I very nice English style barleywine that hits all the expected flavor notes of that style with lots of mixed dried fruit notes. The barrel character is a bit dialed back, but everything is in harmony and flavorful. A very promising first year entry into their barreling program. I'll be back for future versions (a realized I've got to try the base barleywine now too).
