Poured from 500mL bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku. Bottled 12/18/23; this is bottle 50 of 111.
Appearance: rich brown-black hue that lets through no light at all, with a finger of creamy tan foam atop. Very pretty, but the head doesn’t stick around super long.
Smell: rich, sweet, and malty, with wonderful aromas of raisin, tobacco, and leather, with the smoke accentuating the latter very nicely. The cherry is in there, too, and while it’s subtle, complements the mix quite nicely. Very alluring.
Taste: man, this beer just takes all the things I like in an imperial stout (dark fruits, smoky roastiness) and just elevates everything. I love cherry in beers, and this is just an outstanding application! The smoke is pretty prominent in the flavor, and I think it might be a bit too much for a lot of people, but I am really enjoying it. What a great beer!
Mouthfeel: plenty of body, though with a somewhat low carbonation. There’s a nice smoothness here, but it’s kind of underwhelming when compared to the flavor and overall size of this beer.
Overall: I would love, love, love for this beer to have some more carbonation and be creamier, but still, it’s a damn fine beer. Outstanding work.
