The only thing we love more than brewing with our BFFs is nerding out about lagers with our BFFS. To mark our third anniversary, we got together with our pals over at Lowercase Brewing to offer the L&L&L take on the classic Czech Nefiltrované Pivo (or unfiltered beer). It all started with a deceptively simple base of classic Raven Czech pilsner malt, which we took on an enhanced decoction journey. All of this nerding out allowed us to tease out layers of complex malt while still managing to be eminently balanced and chuggable. Inspired by one of our favorite beers, Lowercase’s Italian Pilsner, we went with a light dry hop that encourages floral aromatics and a delicious bergamot citrus note.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 1/6/25.
Appearance: medium golden hue with a tiny bit of haze and a thick head of frothy dark-ivory foam. Lovely!
Smell: rich malty aroma with a nicely complex set of dimensions: toasty but soft, with a bare hint of caramel. Hops are fresh and a little bit herbal and spicy, as to be expected from the style, and there's a nice yeasty component as well. Very good indeed!
Taste: the malt is a little bit heaver and toastier than the aroma, as is the yeast character, but I think it all really works together -- it has a real kellerbier quality to it. Hops are a bit spicy, and there's some bitterness but it's well-balanced by the malt. A damn fine Pilsner.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: like I said, this beer has a kellerbier vibe to it that I'm really grooving on. Very drinkable indeed; I'll have to get more of this one!
