To ring in the Year of the Horse, we got together with our friends at Lucky Envelope and Halcyon to bring you a beer worthy of such an auspicious occasion. Brewed with copious amounts of forbidden rice (also known as black rice), the resulting lager is charmingly light and quaffable. With a lovely golden hue, The Forbidden Lager beguiles with its floral and lightly earthy rice notes. We hope you have as much fun drinking this as we did brewing it.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 2/14/26.
Appearance: rich golden hue with a clear body and a light effervescence. head is a finger of golden-ivory foam. That color looks great.
Smell: sweetish malt with a clean aroma; the noble hops are quite nice. I like it.
Taste: moderate sweetness with a richness to the malt. I don't think I would have guessed rice was in the grain bill; it seems to add a unique earthy flavor. The hops are kind of grassy and bitterness is a bit on the high side. It's one of the more richly flavored lagers I've had.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: this is a very interesting and unique beer; I might not order it every time, but it definitely has its place.
