Copenhagen 1/6 2026. 33 cl bottle from Beershoppen web-shop. As "St. Idesbald Amber". Label in the usual St. Idesbald design line in an orange version with the little logo with the hooded monk.
Pours clear dark amber with a big off-white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as a thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet odor of toasted malts mingling with a yeasty scent and sourish notes. Biscuits and caramel. Whiff of brown sugar and orange marmalade. Humid, musty cellar.
Strong carbonation. Thin, oily, lively and tingling texture. On the verge of being fizzy.
Flavor is fairly intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is lightly bitter. Lingers for a bit. Finish is quite dry.
Fine toasted Belgian.

Purchased at Purvis Beer in Richmond in February 2024 and drunk about ten days later.
L: Murky, honeyed brown, with a thick, moussy off-white head. Small bubbles sprint up the glass.
S: The nose is sweet malt and unfermented wort with a bit of char, bitter chocolate and burnt caramel.
T: Upfront, the taste is malty, caramelised grain with red fruit and spicy alcohol notes. It's followed by earthy, bitter hops, before a sweet, dry finish. Warmth in the throat and chest is noticeable from about halfway through the beer, which helps remind me of the 7% ABV hiding within. It certainly tastes better than the visuals and nose had me expecting, and the dry finish had me quickly reaching for a second sip.
M: The body is smooth. Carbonation is low, but there's a nice kick on the swallow.
O: Better performed than first impressions, and certainly worth a second glass. That second glass might have me on my ear, so perhaps I should stop at one...
Cheers!

L- Ultra-dark amber, clear, pours with 3mm white head.
S- I get some spicy notes reminding me of a German Weissbrau.
T- Amped-up weissbrau spice notes in the taste as well, enough to leave a spicy zing on my palate. Deep and meaty malts, a hint of sour and with a spicy top-note over them. This is a notably well put together beer
F- It's clever, it's meaty, rich (+balancing hint of sour), pungent, exceptionally well carbonated in the mouth. It would make a great slow-sippin' winter beer.
O- I like it a lot, it's a very well put together and rewarding beer. It's pretty full on, it feels more than 7% to me, so I don't think I'd wish for more than one in any session but I'd very happily drink this again.
330ml BB: 21/05/22 £2.99 from BeersOfEurope [UK].
