More of the smoked malt than last year's release.

Sept. 2007: Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. 2006 vintage, bottle #459. Reddish brown colour, off-white head. Strong aroma of rhum-raisin, malts, aromatic hops and alcohol. Malty sweetish flavour, somewhat alcoholic.

A brown clear brew, with a tan head, little lacing but good curtains.
Smelling of old wood, nuts and chocolate. Some Madeira.
Starting with sweet Sherry notes, brown bread, vinous Madeira notes.
Medium low carbonation, small light bubbles, soft and smooth texture, a very good body, somewhat dry finish.
A very good maturation of a strong ale.

The colour is dark brown-red, the liquid is clear. The two finger thick pale beige airy head sinks slowly down, leaving some very fine lacing.
The smell is roasted with some smoked malts and a refreshing bitterness. I found some notes of ginger snaps, rye bread. There is also some alcohol.
The taste is creamy and very malty. Roasted malt with smoked flavours, some spicy and medium bitter hops. The body isnt a strong as I had hoped for. The aftertaste is balanced, malty with some smoky malt, a growing bitterness and a mild bitterness.
The carbonation is rather strong; lots of small bubbles making the beer easy to drink.
