Smooth german pilsener in a very different style but really not bad. Long lasting foam head very few hints of hop but bitter-sweet. You have to drink it from the tap and very cold.

Half-litre on 11 Sep 2013 in the Brauereiausschank on Munsterplatz, Freiburg.
Clear golden, with a full foaming head of white bubbles.
Perfumed aroma, herbal and cloves came to mind as I sniffed and sipped my beer.
Not bad at all, refreshing and slightly different in make up to most German Pilsners, not being so dry and hop orientated: it did however have a mild bitter finish to an otherwise semi-sweet malty tasting brew.
Medium to light body, a good draught Pilsner.

Drank this one a few years back on a visit to Freiburg. Sampled numerous German (and Alsatian) Pilsners, including Bitburger and some local brews. Liked Ganter the best.
Fairly dark for a Pilsner. Excellent aroma and flavor. Well balanced.
Not sure how the bottle compares to tap.

Serving: 500mL bottle poured into various glassware
Served: Many times between March-July 2012.
Appearance: Looks like a good, standard pilsner- clear, yellow. A nice white head, but one that dissipates quickly.
Smell: 'Beer-y', but also somewhat musky.
Taste: That musky, earthiness in the smell is definitely present in the taste. Not the greatest, by any means, but also not bad. There are better offerings. Taste cleans up by the end of the bottle when you get used to it. Tastes 'dry'.
Mouthfeel: High carbonation, typical of a pils.
Overall: There are much better pilsners available in Freiburg, where Ganter is located. Try Rothaus Pils (Tannenzäpfle) if you want a much, much better local option. Ganter does have other decent offerings though, like their Hefe or Radler.

My girlfriend brought a couple of bottles of this back from Freiburg and although I'd never heard of it the association with the Schwarzwald and the attractive bottle made me think I had a real pilsener treat in store. So I was disappointed to discover a fairly lifeless looking beer that didn't hold it's head and left no lacing. The taste was actually a bit better than expected - it's quite a thin beer but it has an interesting malt aftertaste. It's also very drinkable and has none of the nasty metallic flatness of some sub-standard pils. All in all, an underwhelming but not unpleasant pils.

The head is short and the body golden and transparent. A hoppy and somehow unpleasing smell. The taste was very neutral, nothing relevant, except a light sweetness and the strong but not unpleasing hoppiness on the end. A good mouthfeel, and a quite drinkable brew.
