My wife and I took a trip to New Zealand a few months ago (very tardy on logging this review, I know...) and as is typical of our vacations, the trip turned into a wine and beer tour of the country. Mac's was recommended by a couple locals so this is one that I gave a shot.
This beer pours a glowing orangish amber color that is clear and features a white frothy head that dissipates slowly to a rocky layer that is retained. Carbonation is moderate in appearance. 4/5 The aroma is nice, complex, and strong with notes of caramel, grains, tangerine, pine, papaya, and mango. It is definitely hop forward and features a good dose of tropical fruitiness. 3.75/5 The flavor profile features that same notes as the aroma and is once again very hop forward with the malt playing a secondary, albeit strong, role. Bitterness is moderate and lingers lightly after swallowing. 4/5 This is a crisp, medium bodied pale ale that is moderately dry with a light lingering dryness. It also features a light carbonation burn right up front. 4/5 This is a nice APA with a complex aroma and flavor profile that really delivers despite the lower ABV. It is really well crafted and the flavors really work well together. 4/5
