this is freaking epic! just my second ever from these guys, and i was majorly bummed to not encounter more of their beer while i was in scotland, thought it might be more prevalent, but it just wasnt, at least in the places i went to, a shame, but this was a highlight of the trip from any brewery, insanely good, i love the high effort low alcohol beers, and they call this a take on a shandy, but i dont believe its blended with soda or anything, a brett base beer with the juice and zest of oranges and lemons, scored on tap at a neat little pub, unassuming, no real beer description where i had it, way cool surprise in the glass! pale blonde straw colored brew with very light haziness to it and a high airy head of finely packed little bubbles, very active. the aroma is killer, immediately bretty and mature, even sort of wooden and old, totally unexpected but its an awesome profile, a little acidity too, and to me a little more orange than lemon, although both are honest and appreciable, seems wheat based and has some grain character for being a slight as it is, minerality to the point of seeming almost salted, a lemonade thing too, very complex for what it is, majorly appealing as a summer beer, love the brett aspect. the citrus pops in the taste but so does the wild side, brett brux-like to me, and really awesome, recognizable even for a brewery i am not real familiar with, like this could have come from de la senne or something, a massively high compliment from me. lemon and orange together but no fruit sweetness really at all, and not too sour either, the zest makes it punchy but the dose is perfect, and there is enough malt here to keep it beery, maybe some raw wheat too, deeply earthy and clay-like, dry beer but a wet profile, really complex for something this low alcohol, which i also dig. brilliantly effervescent in texture, fun funkiness but not so weird you have to be a wild beer nerd to love it, and i think thats a sweet spot few ever find. very delicious and smart intentional beer here, could drink this all day. wish i got into more from these guys while so close to where its all made, but i am thankful to at least have been able to enjoy this one, seriously cool beer!
