Brasserie Sacrilège "Prune"
33 cl brown glass bottle coded "2022" & "DDM:09/2023". Sampled on 24/12/2025
$4.97 @ Wine, Beer, and Spirits, Omaha, NE
Notes via stream of consciousness: I came across this brewery by accident one day, just grabbing a bottle for refreshment as I'd suddenly realized that I had a long walk ahead of me. I opened it, took a sip, and was blown away. I've been a fan ever since and whenever I find them I have to give them a try. This one is brewed with prune, and it's just 5.3% ABV. It's poured a hazy peachy-amber beneath a short head of white that disappears before your eyes - don't blink or you might miss it. In the nose it's fruity, and I get juicy apple and plum, not prune, although I guess they're the same once the prunes rehydrate in the beer. On to the taste, it's fruity and softly tart with some malty sweetness balancing. That's a delightful little sip with a good deal of refreshment to it. It tastes like plum, as expected, and there's some soft Brettanomyces character to it. I can't even say that I can pick out any specific notes, just that it's got a distant "barnyard" note and some mineral. It's not bitter, nor are there any hop flavors or aromas, but it finishes dry and fruity. This isn't as intense as the other beers that I've tasted from them but that's certainly fine. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and smooth but with a little bit of zing from the acidity. My only regret here is that I didn't get a bigger bottle.

Slightly hazy amberish brew with minimal foam in the chalice. The usual sharp smell with maybe a bit of ham in it. "Prune" is French for plum, and while it certainly doesn't taste like plum maybe there is some fruit hidden in the sharp flavor. It's that tired, ghosty tart taste that makes me wonder why people go to the trouble. Still it's no worse than many other Wild ale concoctions. But the teeth are starting to feel the acidity so time for something else to rinse with. From the tiny bottle. The label has a 20 and then under it a 22, so maybe that's a date.

11.2 FL OZ bottle
Served in a wine glass
2022
This beer pours a hazy orange hue. It is topped with a small, tan head that leaves no trace.
It has a great sour aroma. The plum is there but not in your face. Hints of funk but not funky.
Sour and dry. The plum comes in the middle adding just the right amount of fruit to not overpower the sourness. Dry finish. A little funk.
Light bodied with a dry mouthfeel
Very nice plum sour. I wish it would have been a 750ml bottle to keep the party going.
