Gifted in March 2022 after the Old Man's trip to South Australia, and drunk in September that year.
My first beer of Grand Final week 2022. Go Cats!
Pours a peachy, slightly hazy, golden yellow. Carbonation is almost non-existent. Head quickly drops away to the thinnest rim around the edge of the glass. Some lacing as the beer goes down the glass.
Maybe it's confirmation bias, but the aroma is also sweet peaches and pears; almost cidery.
The taste is dominated by a clean, peach vibe as well, with a harsh but not unpleasant bitterness underlying the whole. Finish is clean and bitter with a lingering sweet aftertaste. Bitterness also lingers after the swallow. Nice.
Mouthfeel is medium carbonation with a soft, pillowy body.
Overall, this is nice. The can is pushing nine months old, so if there was any tropical body there it has faded to leave behind the peachy tones I'm perceiving. Those notes, while unusual in a pale ale, are quite nice and the beer has held up well regardless of what it might have been nine months ago.
Cheers!
