my first beer from this operation, not sure ive ever even heard of them before this, but its a nice clean and well lagered pils, not super european or anything to me, the malt is the unique part, and it has a ton of character for being as light and crushable as it is, a professionally made beer, easy and approachable, but also nuanced, into it. blonde and pretty clear, very well carbonated from the tap, the paler side of the color spectrum for the style for sure. the aroma is dry cereals on the grain side, a little late summer harvest time character, earthy in a fresh way, less dusty and bready than the imports by quite a ways, a little bit of the lager yeast apparent, quite light on the hops, just a late herbal thing and maybe a lemon pop as it warms slightly, very minimalist beer so the grain stands out very well, english muffin before its toasted sort of vibe there, and the flavor is similar, although there is a little bit of a nuttiness to it, like its really light but there is some depth from the grain, a particular minerality, husky and kind of grassy too, dry crumbly crackers, just a trace of central sweetness, but this is very dry and crisp overall, nicely and completely fermented, very fresh from the hops at the end too, and with the effervescence its super refreshing and satisfying on every sip. i think they use local malt for this and it makes it special in its own way, a very enjoyable yellow lager that will be agreeable to most beer drinkers, subtly original, i will look for more from otium when i am back in montana next!
