This Porter is short and dark, but never underestimate the understated. It is very handsome. Let the colour lead you into the forest of dark chocolate and burnt toffee imbued in the roast malt. Both of SHB’s founders, Camo and Ben, lost their fathers to brain cancer so Southern Highlands Brewing Co donates a $1 per every litre sold to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Served on a stout tap, low carbonation and a tight velvet head.
Drink it with: Cherries, Mushrooms, Oysters, Coconut, BBQ, Ice Cream, Chocolate
OG 1.049 | ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 34 | EBC: 70

The wife brought this one back from a girls' weekend in February 2022. Sometimes being married has its advantages. Sometimes. Drunk in October 2022.
L: pours a jet black with ruby highlights around the edge and the bottom of the glass. Huge, billowing tan-white head either an artefact of the beer's carbonation or my pouring skills. Carbonation on the edge of the glass indicates the glass might have been a little dirty and that could account for the head.
S: Burnt toffee, some vanilla and cola. Slightest sour yeast note.
T: Dominated by a toffee/cola vibe. A hint of sour mash throughout and some very slight roastiness. Leaves a long, sweet sour mash aftertaste.
M: Medium mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Residual sweetness detracts from the experience.
O: I had expected the sour notes I was picking up to fade as the beer warmed, but that didn't happen. That taste overrode whatever chocolate or roast character was trying to peek through. Not terribly enjoyable as a result.
Cheers!
