Cuvée de Mortagne Pedro Ximenez is a monumental version of Cuvée de Mortagne. The unusually high Alcohol content of 16%ABV is obtained by a slow natural fermentation. The end result us full bodied with strong notes of Pedro Ximenez type sherry. Aged on sherry barrels for 1 year.

Hazy dark amber color with a small tan head, vinous aroma with caramel, ripe fruits, plums and oak, taste is sweet with caramel and candies, full body, soft carbonation.

The bottle I am drinking is listed at "12%alc./vol." and "11.2 Floz."
Appearance: There was no pop, hiss, or fizz when uncapping the beer. It pours nearly completely still with only a few large bubbles in the glass even when pouring directly vertical. It is a dark brown and orange color that is too hazy to see though. Lighter shades of orange and red crescent the edges of the glass.
Aroma: There is a very light sour aroma to the beer and a wine-like scent on the nose.
Taste: Up front I get a very light caramel flavor that only really manifests in sweetness, quickly followed by a stronger combination of copper and red wine which carries on to the finish. The copper or "blood-like" flavor lingers in the aftertaste. There is a light bit of lingering alcohol but for the most part it is well hidden. Overall the flavors don't meld well with each other and they really just taste thrown together.
Mouthfeel: It feels lifeless on the palate but the alcohol is kept very smooth. No carbonation. It feels medium bodied and a bit acidic.
Overall: The label says this is an "ale aged in sherry oak barrels." The best parts of a Belgian Ale are lost to the best parts of a good wine. What you are left with is a beer that truly lacks identity. It is a fairly average beer that I would not be quick to recommend or drink again.

Thanks Brad. Copper brown body with a soapy tan head. Aromas of brown bread, brown sugar, fruity malts. Cotton candy, malt, raisin, sugar. Extremely sweet. However, quite enjoyable, albeit in small quantities.
