Note this beer is categorised as an Australian Pale Ale, which is not available to choose as a style for this review.
Note also that it looks like the alcohol changes by batch. Untappd lists it as 4.9%, my can said 4.5%, and there are photos on Untappd that show 5.1% on the label.
I hesitate to rate this beer as mine appeared affected by diacetyl, with an overpowering buttery taste dominating the palate. I note a number of reviews on Untappd note the beer is creamy, which seems an odd descriptor for an Australian pale ale. I did ask the brewer about the Golden Ale, which I had onsite and in which I also detected diacetyl, but given that style is ok with some diacetyl, I was not concerned. The brewer mentioned the beer had honey malt which appeared a reasonable answer. It's possible this one does too, but it's not mentioned anywhere on the packaging and if it is in fact the case, it's a strange choice for a pale ale.
I will submit a further review if I ever come across this beer again to see if things are different.
In appearance, the beer is a burnt yellow, with a persistent, thin, white head.
Aroma is dominated by butter. Trying really hard I can detect some citrus underneath.
Taste is as mentioned. There's a hint of a sweet malt body.
Mouthfeel is to style, with medium carbonation and a sweet finish, as to be expected with everything I've said above.
As noted, I'm torn about this review, and will happily remove it if I'm proved wrong.
Cheers!
