Blink and you'll miss this place, I almost did. This spot on Santa Clara tucked between First and Second right near City Fish is eclectic and completely different from anything you get in San Jose when it comes to beer. The vibe is more wine bar/hipster than it is taproom, and that's completely fine. They seem to want to go for a multi-purpose type place with beer, beer adjacent, food, and other hand-made goods.
If you're seeking this place out, you'll either need to pay for parking in one of the lots a block or two away, park 3-5 blocks north or just take VTA as there's several major stops for bus, rapid bus and light rail less than two blocks from this spot. First/Santa Clara can be a bit dicey, especially after dark so keep your head up. While in the area, don't sleep on Good Karma, Original Gravity and Market Beer nearby.
The beer is completely different from what you typically get. Beers inspired by wines and spirits, beers with funky and unusual ingredients (I'm looking at you mushroom caps). All unique flavors, and not a bad one for my money. This is a great change of pace spot if you don't want to down yet another IPA or stout.
Service is excellent, their beertender and their owner both chatted with me, let me try things and gave recommendations. Everything about serving and the beers themselves is high quality, it's very clear they put time and energy into doing more than just mass producing.
Worth seeking out, especially in San Jose where the brewery options are limited and not a lot of really innovative breweries. This one is a huge standout.
