Appearance - 2.0
Pours a thumb's thickness of white head that settled to a thin layer, then disappeared over a pale gold body with a lot of chill haze that later disappeared.

Smell - 3.0
There is something very macro european about the smell of this beer, reminding me of Heineken in particular. Sweet grainy malt with a little herbal hops and diacetyl.

Taste - 3.0
Same as above and just as pronounced. Malty sweet, grain and husk, lemon drops and just a suggestion of hop bitterness. Finishes dry, but actually a little too sweet overall. A little diacetyl becomes noticeable towards the bottom of the glass.

Mouthfeel - 2.5
Quite thin bodied, moderately carbonated, becoming a little sticky as it warms.

Drinkability - 3.5
Unexciting, but actually a very easy drinking beer, though sweetness detracts somewhat. I'd definitely choose this over a Corona or TED.

OVERALL - 2.8
Described as clean, crisp and extra dry, Cuba '59 is actually not as boring as it sounds. To me it is somewhere in the league of Australian brewed Heineken - better than anything with Carlton of Tooheys on the label, but not worth considering for a real beer nut.

This beer is, of course, not Cuban (duh?). Very disappointing, very pale very flavourless.

Very pale gold, with a citrusy smell. Citrusy flavor on the palate, too much for my taste. Lack of malt & hops with a strong lemony taste doesn't do much for me in a beer, even a lager!

Lots of carbonation (which I do like) and the citrusy taste might make this refreshing on a hot day, but I'd reach for many other beers first.

An insipidly pale looking beer , that has a pure white head and moderate beading.
Citrus on the nose .
The flavour reflects the citrus nose with some unpleasant lemoness which over rides the indeterminant origin of the malt.
I suspect that the grains are more than barley which lends a rather bland flavour .
It is lively and tart in the mouth but generally feels a bit lost and unbalanced.
A great con job on the label , that had me thinking I had a beer from Cuba in my hands.
My expectations were not high and they were met

Cuba '59 hey? lotta promotional activity currently with this lil bugga.
Supposedly inspired by the events of the 1959 Cuban Revolution...this pale lager is meant to bring out the "revolutionary joy of life" lol!

A: Light straw, clear, clean, 2 finger head...poor retention & lacing. Not too lively with carbonation.

S: Initially very grassy & skunky, but after a couple of minutes there ain't too much aroma at all.

T: A typical boring simple lager. Not as malty as say some good Euro Lagers, & finishes very crisp & dry. Just not tasty enough.

M: Clean, with ok carbonation on the palate, light to medium.

D: It definately does leave the mouth a little dry (hence reaching for another mouthful without even realising). Being not too much of anything, this could be drunk for those looking for quantity not quality.

It has had some major marketing here, although it still looks daggy...anyway, I thought I better try it, & yeah, not much of anything (no surpises, although maybe a touch better than I thought), but then again nothing really to offend or dislike.

In summary:- Blah!!! next!!!
