New 2006 release, sampled at the brewpub.
Served in a small white wine glass. Poured a somewhat cloudy amber-brown with a small, beige head that left moderate lacing. Definitely an American style Barley Wine with a significant hopping rate.
This is an enjoyable beer, but not the most interesting Barley Wine ever. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, but not particularly distinct in any way. It seemed to have one flavor. The initial taste, through to the finish, offered no change or nuance. In other words, not very complex. It was difficult to decipher what hops and malts were used in the brewing process. My guess is that this beer could benefit from a little aging. If past experience is any indication, that wont happen. Second Street wont bottle any or put any kegs or barrels down for later release. And, it will go quickly. So go quaff a few. Its not the most memorable Barley Wine, but its well worth a try.
