After reading the reviews, I was excited to finally stop by. This place is MUCH smaller than I was anticipating and the selection was very good, but not what I was expecting (based on reviews). Maybe they keep all of the good bottles in the back. Tap selection was very good and staff were very nice. From what I've heard, this is the best place to buy kegs in the area as well. I'll definitely be back but was a bit disappointed in the selection.

There's nothing not to like about this place. They have an outstanding bottle selection and really great service. Everyone who works there is laid back and friendly. They have alot of regulars for a reason. They always have a top notch tap selection and alot of "whales" stashed in the back. It's a very comfortable atmosphere to drink a pint, shop or just hang out.

This is definitely the best bottle shop in Charlotte. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful and their selection is always top notch. The addition of the bar is icing on the cake.

I can always depend on Brawley's to have what I need!! Great selection of bottled stouts, which you can't always find around town. Since they have incorporated taps, it just makes this establishment even better!!

Brawley's - wow. If you haven't been here - go. If you're from out of town - drive.

I was in town visiting fam for Thanksgiving and after reading the BA review figured I'd stop in. I've never received such stellar service from a nicer group of guys. At first glance, it's a small store with a kitschy, local vibe - I questioned the stellar rating until I asked for some help. I explained I was in from Tampa, FL and had a few key beers I was looking for and not only did they help me taste my way through a great tap selection, they literally crawled over kegs and barrels and cases to pull out individual bottles buried in the cooler so I could get every drop of what I wanted to bring home.

I had the good fortune of swinging in the next morning while @marine1975 (Shane) was bartending and picked up a few pint glasses for my collection. In a town with plenty of great beer, Brawley's stands head and shoulders above anywhere in Charlotte and the surrounding area. Don't waste your time anywhere else unless you've hit Brawley's first!

I've been here a couple of times while on business in Charlotte, first time there about a year ago a guy gave me the last 4 pack of Hop Drop N Roll when he learned I was from out of town. I also met Shane, who hooked me up with some nice beer they had in the back.

I went back there about a week ago and again the selection was great, got fresh hops again, this time all I could carry.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the selection seems quite nice, if I had more room in my suitcase I'd have loaded up on my last trip there. I didn't see Shane the second time and he is the "beer guru" of the store according to the other guy I met this last trip, who couldn't quite help out on the "must gets", but was still as helpful and courteous as possible.

I'll hit this spot up next time I'm in the area for sure.

Great experience. I stopped in here this weekend (Sunday) and picked up a few bottles. There's a decent amount of taps and a TV that was turned on to the Panther's game when we walked in.

Beyond that are the coolers with beer and a few dry storage racks with beer as well. A good selection and excellent for the space. They do have a small space in their walk-in with a few more beers.

The negatives: Selection isn't as big as I've seen in the same amount of space but with the dual bar/bottle shop thing, it's understandable.
Secondly, A couple of the bottles my buddy picked up ended up being a couple of bucks more expensive than the Total Wine a block away. That being said, a few of the bottles were cheaper so I'm guessing on the whole, you end up better at Brawley's than elsewhere.

The positive: There was a woman working behind the counter who may have identified herself but I'm terrible with names, just suffice it to say I am assuming she's normally there. She said her son would have really liked to speak with my buddy and me since we were out of towners and she was sad he wasn't there. She gave exemplary service. Once she found that we weren't from Charlotte, she recommended a bunch of local beers they had (most of which we were on the lookout for based on info gleaned from here).

Great experience!

Awesome bottle shop. I was visiting from NY and Sean was extremely pleasant in helping me find some local gems to bring home. He took over 20 minutes walking me through the store, giving me recommendations. If I were a local, this would be the only place I purchased beer and if you visit, it is a mandatory stop.

Really feel the need to share the wonderful experience I had in Brawley's. Stopped in after flying into Charlotte on the way home to Columbia, SC. There were about 20 beers on tap, and the bartender (sorry I can't remember the name) was very helpful. After my wife asked about a different stout he pointed out Xocoveza, gave a wonderfully accurate description of the beer, and let her try a sample. I had a La Folie, which I'm always happy to drink.

Selection was really top notch for the size of the store. I could tell that Micheal has thought out what beers to carry to get the most out of his space. Got some Nugget Nectar and Sweet Baby Jesus, as well as several other local goodies. Micheal took the time to talk to me about the North Coast Old Stock Otsuchi, and he also answered several other questions even though the store was pretty busy.

After I checked out he asked me what type of glass I like to drink out of and hooked me up w/ a sweet Teku. This really was the cherry on top of a great experience.

I will definitely be back here whenever I'm in the area. It's really nice to be treated like a valued customer and talk beer w/ some knowledgeable guys. I recommend this store to anyone who happens to be in Charlotte.

Visited here while teaching for a week in Charlotte. Delightful customer service. Hard to judge selection since I'm not familiar with the area but I managed to spend a couple hundred dollars on wicked weed and cascade beer I can't get here at home. Lovely, lovely place

I got to meet Mike yesterday for the first time. It was my second visit to his store. While the space is small, the selection is excellent and the customer service superb. Even though I wasn't a regular, he sold me what I wanted (GL Christmas Ale) from his "best customer hold back stock." He also let me taste New Belgium's La Folie (the taps are now open) which blew me away. It bought it and several other of his suggestions. I live in Gaffney, SC, so to get good beer I have to make a beer run to either Greenville or Charlotte. My first stop in Charlotte will be Brawley's from now on. Mike's beer knowledge is that of a master. I look forward to reviewing his recommendations. Take the time to discuss with him what your preferences are and he'll hook you up with fantastic beer.

I'm the type of girl that LOVES beer! Guinness style, deep, dark, flavorful beer. And then 3 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and have been searching for gluten free options besides cider! While searching for a location to buy a specific Dogfish beer, I found Brawley's. BIG. SIGH. OF. RELEIF.

The owner showed me the shelves (no, not shelf, SHELVES) of their gluten free beer options. And this wasn't even including cider or the dreaded Redbridge. Not only did they carry the multiple brands I have looked up, but they also carried bands that I had never heard of an am so excited to try. Then he asked if I had considered Mead... really hadn't thought about it, but it was a GREAT suggestion. He showed me the selection and suggested a few that were worth trying.

So very helpful. So very friendly. And while I went in intending to buy one type of Gluten Free Beer, I left with a few. In addition, he did not carry a Pumpkin Cider I had read about and is contacting his Harpoon Distributer to see what he can get on hand.

As long as I am in Charlotte, this will be where I buy my Gluten Free Beer... and Mead... and cider.

Brawley's, a Charlotte institution. I'm assuming it's located in an old gas station, because that's what it looks like to me. The shop is old and small but don't let that fool you because it's very well taken care of. Although there's not massive shelf space or a big warehouse feel there is certainly plenty of beer lining the shelves to keep me satisfied along with a small-ish cold storage room in the back.

The owner was great. Talkative and enthusiastic. Quick to give tips on an upcoming roadtrip around the area. He knows his beer and loves to share information. The store selection is expertly handpicked and well thought out. NC locals and seasonals stuf the shelves with smatterings of out of state offerings and imports. All prices are beyond fair. If you're in Charlotte Brawleys is a must.

Excellent service and a great selection of beers from everywhere. A true beer geek. Not hard to get to even though I'm not local, it's still being built, and will feature taps in the future, so the floor is crowded a bit. Would be my top spot if I was local, but I drive 2 hours one way to get here every now and then too, I can't say that about any other place
. Highly recommend the service is incredibly good, and in a competitive retail market owner enthusiasm is a real separator.

It was great to finally meet Michael at his awesome store. My Mom lives in the Carolinas and has been swinging by for years to seek out rarities to bring up to Toronto. This year's beercation brought us to North and South Carolina, and Brawley's was top of mind for a visit.

Found some rare treats and learned of the secret identity of the man on the bottle of Olde Hickory Daniel Boone.

Great vibe, super friendly owner (Michael), killer selection, and soon to be completed tap room make this a must stop for beer enthusiasts.

I see the high marks so many must be neighborhood people who frequent quite a bit and know the people who work here. Upon my 3rd visit and a few purchases each time, I guess I'm still a stranger, but that's okay. I drive a decent way to see places and check out selections, so I would at least expect a little friendliness.

Selection for the unknowns is what is on the floor. Some on shelves, many open cases or coolers. I did see a few things here I couldn't get elsewhere, but their Twitter/Facebook feeds advertise some specials, but I found they are not for everyone, only their regulars.

I asked why I would have a reason to come back if they wouldn't sell me what I came for, and was told they try to keep their regular visitors first. I didn't see a crowd (I was the only one inside or in the parking lot) and was there for at least 45 minutes looking around.

I understand the regulars but if the beer was released 4-5 days prior, aren't paying customers wanted first? I can understand holding special releases for a day or 2 after receiving them, but after 5 days? I'll be back again to see if anything changes, but I can go elsewhere, just hope they learn as it is a decent shop.

No taps at this time, but was told anywhere from April to November of 2014.

So I have never reviewed anything before and there is no better time than now to review the one single place/person that got me truly excited about craft beer. Almost 10 years ago I walked into Brawley's the day that NC popped the cap on the (at one time) stringent abv limit. Brawley had beers above the 6% cap that was in place just a day before. I wanted to buy the store out of all of these delicious goods so I could try all the new flavors that I had never experienced before. I got quickly shot down and the reason was that everyone should get a chance to try these beers as well, not just me. That was a new philosophy for me and I immediately appreciated what it was he was doing for the community. He had one of my favorite bands playing on the stereo which we talked about for almost the entire hour I was in the store. I felt at home and knew this was a guy that I wanted to give my business to. Since that first day I have learned a lot from Brawley. One of my first questions was "what is that spicy note I get from the 90 minute ipa?". That was the day I learned about hops. Every since, I have learned more and more about craft beer. Ten years later when I walk in that door we still talk about beer, music, weather and life. I still learn from him and I may have even shared some knowledge that he has gained from. Yes, he takes care of his regular customers which I am proud to say I am. This is a community store, not as much local community store, but a beer community store. If you walk in and ask for a highly allocated beer and thats all you have on your mind, chances are you will get shot down so that he can take care of the folks that help make that community what it is today. If its your first time in, let them know, you will be rewarded. After that visit, take some time to beergeek out and enjoy the conversations that go on in that building. It reminds me of when I used to go to the barbershop with my pops and experience the communal discussions that used to take place. You dont have to be a regular to get rewarded but contributing to the vibe that is created there rewards everyone.
As far as the beer goes, Brawley is the previously named Godfather of the craft beer scene in Charlotte. He and his staff make sure they get the new and exciting beers that come into the market along with all of staples that helped build the craft beer world. I'm an IPA guy and they do the BEST job in town to make sure what I take home is the freshest possible. As far as pricing goes, you will never see any gouging. He has the most competitive pricing of any privately owned bottle shop in the state and even rivals the big box stores and grocery stores that sell out of date shelf turds. They havent opened the taproom yet, but there is no doubt in my mind that it will also be the best around.
Everything about this place screams craft beer, community and family. Whether its talking with him, his always smiling and kind mother, talking beer trades with Shane, chatting with other beer folks or watching little Piper grow up, this place embodies small business and the community it creates. Cheers to the folks that embrace that philosophy and cheers to Boo!!!

I make it a point to stop by here every time I'm in Charlotte or surrounding area looking for beer. They have a great selection, always seem to get a larger quantity of the limiteds which makes it easier for me to get some even a day or two after the releases, and keep a nice inventory of staples. Awesome little bottle shop that you should seek out if you're in the area.

Brawley's is a very cool little beer store. I've been in hundreds of times & Michael (owner) is super cool and helpful; he was pushing quality beer when you couldn't find it anywhere else in the Charlotte area. The prices are good and the selection is too. If you're in Charlotte and in the area, drop by; you'll likely find something neat to take home. If you're looking for glassware, they've got a nice selection for sale. The addition of the tap room is very welcome, nice selection and fun vibe.

I cannot stress enough - if you're in the area, this is a must-stop spot. Cheers!
