Another case of a brewery popping up near me and not a single word being breathed about it. Killing me, Smallses. This one's tucked into the elbow joint of a quiet strip mall in Glenview, extremely unassuming. I was the first one there, after killing time waiting for the opening at 5, and the proprietor was more than welcoming. The space is slightly small, kinda like a neighborhood taco joint in terms of seating (we're talking suburbs-style, kidz, so there are a couple more tables than the smaller urban cousins, but let's not get things too twisted in the other direction, either), with some fun artwork throughout the place. The wall closest the door has a display of dozens of bronze age comic books, a couple of which shot me right back to my childhood. After some pleasantries with the proprietor, I set in on what I had promised him: I tried the whole range on offer. Sure, at the time this constituted 4 beers, but still, we were both tickled at the prospect. As our conversation continued, I was offered some of those flavored pretzel sticks you've seen pop up at just about every nearby brewery in the past few years (they were pretty good, admittedly); as a couple more people strolled in, just about equally surprised to find the place as I was, the congenial atmosphere only grew. The Boys was put on the screen in front of me (my man had heard than I hadn't seen it yet), a taste of lovely bourbon was passed around, and a seemingly random bottle of barrel-aged stout from Nebraska of all places was opened and shared. I'm not gonna assert that this sort of treatment is the usual 'round here, but it was lovely nonetheless, deserving of some massive props, but I also doubt it would be entirely different on another occasion: sure, maybe no special pours coming out of nowhere, but something tells me I'd still be enjoying myself. I kinda wanna see more people find out about this place, as the beers are pretty solid at the very least, 'cause good folks should get your business over those not-so-greats (especially while we're stuck in this terrible late-capitalist hellscape anyway). Very good times, very nice vibes, indeed.
