Purchased at the brewery in March 2022. Drunk in September that year.
The beer is a lovely copper colour with a slight haze, befitting an unfiltered, unpasteurised beer. There's a 1.5cm fluffy white head with thick lacing on the glass.
The nose is sweet and mildly biscuity. There's a creaminess there that makes me want to say porridge or lactose - I can't put my finger on the right descriptor. Actually, on further sips, it's sweet bread, in fact almost brioche. Yep, brioche it is.
The taste is ultra smooth. That sweet note I couldn't place turns up as brioche and even vanilla/lactose, and it was that realisation that gave the aroma note to me. There's a slight hit of bitterness after the swallow, perhaps just enough to cancel out the sweetness, although I think I'd have preferred slightly more, as the beer does become increasingly sweet the more you drink it. The finish, as expected for such a sweet beer, is quite long.
The beer is silky in the mouth and right on point.
Overall, once I cracked my perception of the beer, the sweetness of the whole thing became the overriding note. I don't know that I'd go back for more, or at the very least I'd need something a little more bitter or hop-forward to balance this one out. I don't recall having a Maibock before, so I'd like to taste some more to see how this one stacks up. If I can, I'll review this one again in that context.
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
