Purchased at the source in March 2022. Drunk in February 2023.
L: Dark brown with burnt amber highlights. No head and a thin rim around the edges. No evident carbonation.
S: Solvent, dark fruit, vanilla, wood.
T: Tangy dark fruits, vanilla, a little bit of booze and a thin whisky note from the barrel right at the end before a long, sweet finish. On reflection, it hides its alcohol very well.
M: Carbonation is very low and the barrel note at the end thins out the beer a touch.
O: There's nothing to not like about this beer. It plays everything safe and as a result is enjoyable and perhaps even a little bit dangerous given the smoothness of its ABV. But that said, the beer also never reaches any great heights. Nothing jumps up and says I am the reason you'll drink this beer, and you'll drink me again! In the end, that costs this beer a higher score.
Cheers!
