Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark mahogany brown with low light transmission and a two finger light khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark, lightly toasted malt, mixed nuts, a hint of char, postum and coffee; inviting. Flavor is dark toasted malt, filberts, brown and whole grain bread crust and hints of cocoa. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A great brown lager with a wonderful malt base. Label calls it a "brown lagerbier" and I entered it here as a Czech dark lager as the closest to that description and it does seem to fit, although I'm not sure that was the intent by the brewery. Hop bitterness is subdued, but lightly noticeable in the finish. Flavor is roasty and nutty right off, but somewhat tapers off in the finish, otherwise a fine dark lager. Looks great (second real looker of a beer in my glass this evening). Hope to see more dark lagers in the future; they seem to be popular right now and a hopeful trend.
