07/08/05- Had a BA Spinlock's house at a small two person beer/dinner party.
Presentation- 375ml bottle with no dating. Poured into a pint glass.
Appearance- Thick and brown pour. No head and minimal lacing. But, I think this would be fairly standard for a high abv doppelbock.
Smell- Alcohol fumes mixed with caramel and some minor deep and dark fruits.
Taste- Light bite of alcohol at first, which mellows out. Big caramel and tootsie roll flavor followed by a big raisin taste. Maybe some figs and dates as well.
Mouthfeel- Very low carbonation with a very very thick and coating mouthfeel.
Drinkability- Quite a sipper. Smooth and best had after a nice dinner. Drink the bottle with a friend. A pint is a bit too much.
