On tap in a pint glass at the Triple Rock Brewery

L: Clear golden color with a small head, and decent retention. A little lacing on the glass. Nice looking beer.

S: Stronger nose than some Pale Ales, more like an IPA. Prominent citrus hops.

T/F: This is where the wheels fell off. The first sips were only OK, and subsequent tastes seemed to get progressively worse as the beer warmed up a bit. The beer just seemed unbalanced, with some hops at the front, not much of a malt backbone to even things out, and too bitter at the finish. I like bitterness in my beers, but there has to be some flavor upfront to match.

O: Maybe a I got a bad batch, but I wouldn't try this again. Good looking and smelling beer, but the taste was too off more me to truly enjoy.

A - Served a clear golden-orange color with a half finger of frothy white head. The head fades down slowly leaving behind some good lace.

S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel and biscuit malts with some light pine hops.

T - Starts off with some sweet caramel and biscuit malts with some pine hop. Through the middle, some more hop flavor comes through with some bitterness and a bit more biscuit flavor. The finish is a mix of grassy hop with some bitterness and sweet caramel malts.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a crisp and lightly dry finish.

D - Very drinkable. Very nicely balanced Pale Ale. The beer is very crisp and refreshing.

On-tap at Triple Rock

A: The pour is a slightly hazed golden/straw color with a finger of white head.

S: Some citrus and grassy hop aroma to begin with. The rest of the nose is a bready and somewhat biscuity malt aroma. Not overly complex, but it's a pale ale. And at least it's clean.

T: A moderate bitterness which works well for a pale ale. A nice bread malt base to the beer with a touch of floral, citrus, and slightly grassy hops.

M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

D: Looking at the previous review, it appears they've improved this beer in the past couple years. I found it to be refreshing and easy to drink.

I saw another ale under Triple Rock called "Bug Light." I'm not sure if this is the same as what their menu and website refer to as "Bug Juice"--which they describe as an organic pale ale--a "medium bodied golden ale that has a floral hop and a light caramel taste."

A: Pale yellow; a bit hazy.
S: Not very effervescent. Maybe some hops and butter.
T: Main tastes are malt, butter, a bit of light caramel, and a floral hop finish.
M: Somewhat carbonated, little bitterness or sting or anything noticeable.
D: Easy to drink, but mainly because it was not very complex and a bit boring.

In line with its play on name, this beer was pretty average. Was hoping for more, as I think the brews at Triple Rock are overall pretty good.
