First of all, the ABV should read 5.4%, rather than 4.5%. I was a bit hasty entering the beer in the system and now I've paid the price of inaccuracy. Consumed on tap at Stone on 11/25/2009. The beer pours translucent light golden and it's capped by a one finger white cream. Retention is good and there's a little lacing.
The aroma is of ripe oranges and a little grapefruit. The hops impart floral notes. It has an upper level of low sweetness and the malt is grainy. The ripe orange character is most notable.
The beer opens with orange pith and ripe grapefruit follows close behind. Bitterness is at a low moderate level. The mouthfeel is dry and the malt is sweet and grainy. The beer is light bodied with moderate draft carbonation. The beer is light and crisp on the palate. The beer finishes with ripe orange and a lingering moderate level of bitterness. This is a refreshing pale ale that is low on the bitterness but delivers on the hop flavor. Light, flavorful, refreshing, and drinkable. I drove to stone to try one pint of this beer and I ended up drinking 3 pints. That's either a sign that this beer was delicious and drinkable, or it's an indication that I have a drinking problem.
