From notes -
Black pour with an off-white foamy head that clings to the glass.
The aroma is piney, skoal chewing tobacco and bubble gum. Odd combo but it works.
The taste is sweet with a nice hoppy bite and slight bitterness in the aftertaste.
Dry mouthfeel.
Nice and hoppy take on the BW style. Pleasantly pleased by this brew. Almost refreshing while consuming. Worth seeking out.

A: Deep auburn with a decent amount of lacing.
S: One whiff, and I was pleased. It touts itself as being in the "west coast" style, and I agree. There are big hop notes up front that give the beer a bit of spiciness.
T: Those spices come first in the flavor, and that gives way to a nice bready flavor. The rye really helps push that. The sweetness of the malts gives the beer a bit of an apricot edge, and at the very end I noticed what I can only describe as "bell pepper". The beer is tremendously balanced with nice body and just a tad of bitterness to excite the palate.
M: It's a little heavy, but not too much so for a 10.0% ABV beer. It's more "full" than "heavy".
D: For the style, this was tremendously drinkable without being watery.
O: Get it. This is how I think a Barleywine should taste - balanced but without sacrificing the spiciness of the hops. Choosing to go with the rye was smart, as it only helped to accent this and rein in the subtle bitter notes.

Poured a sappy reddish brown with translucency around the edges. Had a thick pure white foamy head that laced exquisitely.
Nose was first and foremost of toffee, and boy was it strong and pleasant smelling. After that there were tinges of roasted grain, bread, a bit of leafy hops, and some regular old barley.
Taste followed suit, with lots of malty goodness, ranging from toffee to mocha latte, to toasted biscuits. Hops get into the action, offering a strong balance that is definitely welcomed.
The balance is so perfect on this brew that the drinkability is top notch, despite the 10% abv. Mouthfeel is full bodied and borderline creamy, with a feel that goes hand in hand with the toffee taste and nose. Strongly recommended.
