On tap (pitcher) at the brewpub.
A: It pours a dark brown with good clarity. When held to the light, it glows faintly red. Light tan head with short retention.
S: It's really earthy, with some roasted malt coming next. Dark chocolate and grains finish out the nose. I'm guessing the mushroom contribution is that strong earthiness.
T: As in the nose -- lots of earth, bordering on tasting dirty. Classic porter flavors include nuts, roasted grain, and dark chocolate.
M: A shade lighter than medium bodied. It seems on the dry side for the style. The earthiness I keep referring to leaves a little sticky, bitter aftertaste.
O: Mushrooms or no, it's solid but unremarkable.

On cask at Pizza Port Real Ale 2011. Porter brewed with Porcini mushrooms. Sounds interesting.
A: Dark brown with a reddish tinge. Small beige head.
S: Earthy roasted and toasted biscuit malt with a dash of chocolate. Nothing screams mushroom, though it smells quite nice.
T: Earthy with evident nut character and toasted biscuit malt profile with a little roast. Dash of chocolate. Nothing mushroomy about it, but it's a pretty nice porter.
M: Medium body with low carbonation and a sticky dry mouthfeel.
Overall: A nice porter, though no mushroom to speak of.
